End of Year "I Cans" for AFJH Orchestras

Beginning Orchestra players can-
-Name parts of the instrument
use the names of the parts of the instrument. Work it into the teaching process.
-Take Care of the instrument
-Know the position of right hand/left hand
-Have good Posture
-D, G, C Major Scale
-Know basic Terms and Signs
-Know basic Note and rest values
By the end of the year. First Year (Guarantee Assessment)
Play with good posture and bowhold
Draw the piano keyboard
Understand how to play scales
Play one octave scales C, G, D,F
Understand the concept of shifting
Draw an accurate fingerboard chart
Discern out of tune notes, sharp or flat.
Articulate a basic knowledge of vibrato
Demonstrate a knowledge of terms in the glossary of String Explorer Bk 1
Read note names at a rate of 1 per second
Sing in tone
Count whole, quarter, half, eighth notes and rests
Improvise on one string and write rhythmic compositions
Demonstrate of the playing skills involved with their instrument on a 1st years level

Intermediate Players-can:
Play with good posture and flexible bowhold
Draw the piano keyboard with enharmonics
Play every major and minor scale 1 octave
Play C, G, D, F A Bb two octaves
Shift from any position between 1st and 3rd
Draw an accurate fingerboard chart up to 3rd position
Tune their own instrument with fine tuners
Demonstrate a working vibrato
Demonstrate a knowledge of terms in the glossary of String Explorer Bk 2
Read note names at a rate of 80/minute
Sing in tune
Count whole, quarter, half, eighth notes and rests, triplets and cut time.
Improvise on and write for their instrument in 1st positions
Demonstrate of the playing skills involved with their instrument on a 2nd year level.



Advanced Players-can:
Play with posture and tone of an advanced player
Draw the piano keyboard with double # and b
Play and indentify every major and minor scale 3 octaves
Know and hear intervals 2nd, 4th, 5th, Octave
Shift from any position between 1st and 5th
Draw an accurate fingerboard chart up to 5th position
Tune their own instrument with pegs
Demonstrate a solid vibrato
Demonstrate proficiency in high-level bow manipulation
Read note names at a rate of 100 notes per minute
Recognize and perform all bowing style, tempo, and dynamic markings.
Count and write all rhythms in any meter.
Improvise on and write for their instrument in 1st through 3rd position
Demonstrate of the playing skills involved with their instrument on a 3rd+ year level.
